Slovak International Air Fest 2012 is one of the largest aviation events in Slovakia. The program promises to be really interesting, and in addition a small distance (from Polish) Sliač makes it a very good choice for fans of aviation.
As a media partner of the event and based on experience from previous editions and other events from the airport, we decided to write a short tutorial photographic shoot to help during the event.
We have to notice that the data and information submitted by us are based on our experience from 2011.
Let’s start with a brief presentation of the map with marked places, which will be described.

Grey marker
It is the location of the main parking lot at the airport. Hence the place (the main gate) to reach takes about 10-15 minutes.
Red marker
A place for the audience. This is the best and most comfortable place in our opinion. In case of good weather, the sun is on the left. Dynamic Shows are held close to the public, and to capture enough lens with a focal length approximately 300mm. The upside is beautiful scenery in the background and a large variety of frames – start, taxi, show, landing … In addition, the exhibition is located here static, which this year also promises to be very promising. A few sample photos from this place:
Blue marker
A seat “North”. Good place to shoot off or low airfare. However, it requires a large focal length – about 300mm-400mm. Unfortunately, in the case of good weather is a bad idea, because pictures will be taken under the sun. Despite this, it is a place where you can watch the take-offs, and shots come out really delicious. Sample scene:
Green marker
The green bar is the way to this place, one of the most “comfortable”. If we go further north (than marked on the map) will not have any visibility due to tall trees and bushes. In contrast, along the first 500 meters of a high fence, and then there is only a net, which allows you to take great photos. Of course, the shooting here will be needed ladder. As for equipment – depending on the position of the aircraft (beginning / middle / end of the belt) and the size of the aircraft will need a lens with a focal length of approximately 150mm-400mm. It is worth mentioning that at this point we observe demonstrations “from behind” and the starts / landings, it is tempting to panning. A few shots from this place:
Pink marker
Reserve parking for the airport and a great place to park if you use the space marked in yellow and green.
Yellow marker
A seat “on approach”. This site is best seen landing machines that are very close to us. Easy enough focal length of approximately 70mm. Place only good for shooting landings. A few sample shots:
We hope that this short guide will help you shoot during the air show in Slovakia, and that our advice is useful. See you at the SIAF 2012!
