The MCAS Miramar AirShow 2022 is definitely a must-see event for enthusiast not only of US Navy and US Marine Corps, but also aviation in general. It was exactly the place, where these iconic scenes from Top Gun move were recorded, and at the end of September, on 21-23rd, the base was open to visitors during the MCAS Miramar AirShow 2022.
A huge difference in terms of both organizational and spectacular aspects when comparing to the European shows as well as the scale of static exhibitions that was presented there could really hold your breath. MCAS Miramar AirShow, being mainly US Navy and Marine Corps event, presented various aircraft from these divisions – F/A-18 in many variants, F-35, E-2C or CH-53 … US Air Force also presented its aircraft with T-38 trainers or B-52 bombers, but naval aviation definitely took precedence in those days.
The dynamic display was refined to the last details, and despite the shorter time than in Europe (only 10:00 – 16:00), these were really intense with all the time some performer displaying in the air. MCAS Miramar AirShow 2022 is mainly military show, but there were also civilian pilots such as Rob Holland and Mike Goulian presenting unique acrobatic maneuvers. As the military part goes, one could see a number of machines presented at the static exhibition, such as the F/A-18, F-35 or C-130, parachute jumpers from the US Army as well as the F-22 Demo Team from the US Air Force. There is no doubt that for many people these machines are on the “bucket list” – here they were gathered in one place and in a dynamic show, which really made you feel in the middle of the action.
The most „popular” show was definitely Blue Angles display with their F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft – extraordinary precision, piloting skills, and close formation are one thing. But also all the teamwork and preparation of the team, including maintenance and the taking care of both pilots and technicians around airplanes, make the “show” start already on the ground, where every element is very well prepared.
MCAS Miramar AirShow is definitely an event worth visiting – no only as an aviation enthusiast, but also just to become closer to aviation. Everyone will find something for themselves in a friendly aviation atmosphere, hoping for an even bigger and more spectacular event in 2023.
