Thanks to our cooperation with Luftwaffe and Flugbereitschaft BMVg, at the beginning of October we had the opportunity to participate in Joint Warrior 2015 excercise watching the aerial refueling operations of German fighters.
After the morning arrival at the airport in Cologne and the briefing we were taken to the tanker, which was the Airbus A310 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker-Transport). We are hitting the coast of England and Scotland, where at an altitude of 20 000 ft refuel zone is active at given day. After a short hold on the horizon we can see first fighters – 2x Panavia Tornado. After their refueling 2 another machines are approching. These aircraft are adjusted for the drogue refueling that extends from the special tanks positioned under the wing of the aircraft on both sides. After finishing AAR operations we ascend back to the cruising altitude of 30 000 ft and return to the airport in Cologne.
In addition to the images of AAR, we also present a few shots of the Airbus A310 MRTT – including the cockpit or tanker operator station. It is worth mentioning that we were the first Polish reporters, which took flight on board a German tanker. We invite you to see the photos.
