China AirShow 2024
  26 November 2024
Tomasz Lechowski

The China International Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition 2024, commonly known as Airshow China, took place from November 12 to November 17, 2024, in Zhuhai, Guangdong province. Recognized as the only international aerospace trade fair endorsed by the Chinese central government, this biennial event has served as a pivotal platform for showcasing advancements in aviation and aerospace technology since its inception in 1996.

Overview and Highlights of the Exhibition

Organized under the auspices of the China Administration of Civil Aviation, Airshow China aimed to foster trade discussions and technological exchanges among global aerospace stakeholders. The exhibition featured an impressive array of static displays showcasing cutting-edge aircraft and technology, complemented by dynamic flight demonstrations that captivated attendees from around the world. The previous edition in 2021 attracted over 220,000 visitors and showcased approximately 700 exhibitors from various countries, setting high expectations for the 2024 event.

This year’s edition prominently featured significant advancements in China’s military aviation capabilities. A major highlight was the debut of the J-35A, China’s second stealth fighter, which positioned China alongside the United States as one of the few nations with multiple operational stealth fighters. Additionally, the unveiling of the J-20S, the world’s first two-seat stealth fighter, further demonstrated China’s commitment to enhancing its military aviation capabilities. These developments not only showcased technological prowess but also underscored China’s strategic ambitions within the global aerospace landscape.

Historical Context and Economic Impact

Since its first event in 1996, Airshow China has evolved dramatically, reflecting the rapid modernization of China’s aerospace sector. Each iteration has showcased groundbreaking technologies and aircraft that have garnered global attention. The airshow has consistently served as a barometer for industry trends, highlighting both military and civilian aerospace advancements.

The economic implications of Airshow China are substantial. Previous events have resulted in contracts worth billions of yuan, underscoring the airshow’s role as a catalyst for business within the aerospace sector. For instance, during the last airshow, contracts signed exceeded 280 billion yuan, illustrating its significance in fostering international trade relations. This year’s exhibition continued this trend, further establishing Zhuhai as a key hub for global aerospace commerce.

As Airshow China 2024 concluded, it proved to be an essential gathering for aviation enthusiasts, industry leaders, and government officials alike. With its focus on technological innovation and international cooperation, this exhibition solidified China’s position as a key player in the global aerospace arena. Attendees left with memories of an exciting week filled with groundbreaking displays and opportunities for collaboration within this dynamic industry.
